Sandeep Vij Architect Work Gets Stolen - NDMC Design Competition

Architect's Work Gets Stolen! Thief Is A Competitor.
2001 - Bus Q Shelter Design Competition by NDMC
An entry from a participant was nonsense. They had put up a pornographic image in their model and one stupid Front Elevation. There were no dimensions. It was not an Architectural Drawing. It was a School Dropout doing some erotic exercises, and they presented it at NDMC Design Competition Presentation! SVA was left wondering what actually is going on here. He (Bharat Constructions chap) had put up a bikini clad young woman as the selling point on the front top panel, and Sterling Architect was wondering where is the Architecture, by the way, in his design. There was no design. He didn't think that chap was an Architect. Go to http://www.sandeepvij.blogspot.com/2019/05/2001-busqshelter-design-competition-ndmc-stealing-competitor-thief.html .

The Jury was happy with SVA's presentation and so was his client. All Jury's questions were answered, all their points laid to rest and they were really very impressed and very happy. “Now when we came out of the Presentation into the Foyer or Lobby or wherever these Bharat Constructions people were moving around me and were eyeing my sheets. I did not make much of it then. My sheets were with me of course. Some were rolled up, some were in a Roll Pack. I sat down for a while on a chair. These Bharat Construction people with their mature, hardened looks (touts and louts) and their sinister faces and rabid mental designs and their criminal intent (I did not make much of it - I couldn't fathom that they could even steal) sat next to me on both sides. There were more than four five fellas. When I returned after 2-3 minutes these people were all gone, ... and my sheets were gone. I was shocked. These people stole my drawings. They ran away with my Designs. Floppy Diskette was gone too. India is full of thieves.”

“My Contact Person was gracious enough to accept that I worked hard and that he was happy. Yes, he lauded my work, my efforts and I write this because he actually sounded reasonable, except for the earlier little time wasting PR bit. I mean I should be fair, so I am saying that yes indeed this businessman was sincere. He said that he doesn't understand the design etc much but going from what everybody is saying my designs must be good, and from whatever little bit he understands he knows that I have worked very hard. And yes again he had called me later asking if I would be interested in supervising a few bus stands as per my design and how much I would charge for the same.”

The Conceptualisation, the Designing, working out, seeking a Structural Consultant, running to him in NCR and back at least twice (actually a ‘further’ contact of an Army Engineer, his Contact, acquaintance), getting his Structural Drawings, meeting Client more than twice, wasting time with this Client who was ‘also’ interested in some PR, doing own research (he went around for, amongst others, measuring the centre to centre of wheel to wheel of a normal DTC Bus plying in Delhi - and that was exactly 5 metres, by the way, SVA remembers that! - 2001, mind it, not the present day buses, whose c/c is, he reckons, around 6.5m), sourcing a Model Maker, explaining to him everything and finally getting the Model from him, preparing the drawings at Sterling Architect (SVA) end was done in under two weeks flat. The Structural Drawings had not been asked for by these NDMC people! He got them prepared still! It was not in the brief. But then, SV the Architect was working. So those Drawings were an extra! It was purely his call to get in a Structural Consultant.

So dilliwaalon!, this is not about getting famous or try to get into limelight, but a little order is in order. :-) That's it. And he makes a friendly appeal to all people of Delhi that his Design should be replicated in at least 2-3 places in each District of Delhi, exactly as he designed (as much possible). He wishes to demonstrate something. He wishes to explain about an orderly, organised, smart, evolved society. He wishes to “give” you something to be proud of. "Yeh hamaare liye hai" something. “Meri Dilli Meri Jaan” kehte ho?

“.. Jigraa Hai To Aa Jaa Jaaneman! Let's do some swashbuckling “Living Daylights” activity around town. You are young, you are a male, female, any religion, any political affiliation. ..” Go to Post - click anywhere here >> Sandeep Vij Architect Work Gets Stolen - NDMC Design Competition << click anywhere here.

Line Of Sight - Architect Contends - Ad Panels Placement

Bus Q Shelter Design Competition by NDMC Delhi in 2001
Line Of Sight. Ad panels should be placed correctly. Architect's Contention: If you are on the shelter and looking towards the road or facing the road, then the right side panel is towards the rear of that side, and the left panel is towards the front of the side. ..
(Find link below or click anywhere on this line.)
.. In India vehicles move towards the left. Ad panels should be placed such that vision of the bus from the passenger on the bus stand is not obstructed. How can NDMC and MCD and DTC be such dunderheads? Architect was cautioned btw that there is an ad panel area to be achieved and the right ad panel cannot be done away because that was just not in the culture at that time. So the Sterling Architect shifted the ad panel towards the rear of the side, the right side. Also it is rectangular vertically so that line of vision is obstructed least. Refer the Side Elevations, pictures are provided in Post. Left ad panel is differently then towards the front of the side for creativity and interest. Bus is not coming from there. These side panels (each) are hung on a frame atop two 25MM Square MS Pipes that then go further up into the Roof Structure. So Sandeep Vij Architect - B. Arch. GCA Lucknow - was the first one to propose that the ad panels should not be towards the right. He had provided a railing also on both the side peripheries for the reason that he wanted this Shelter to be protected, sacrosanct. This railing was in the form of a chain that was the same as the chain that you see along Rajpath and India Gate. His contention was that with the help of this Chain the entire New Delhi area or Lutyen's Delhi can be "bound", it can have an identity distinct of its own and a character distinctly its own. It would be an 'immediate connect'. All think it is a fabulous idea. And then it looks good from the sides too and provides the Bus Q shelter with a sort of 'completion'. There should be no grudges on the Jury's objection or apprehension on the implementation of this one though. The total height of the Bus Stand from the finished surface is 3657 MM , or a little above 3.6 Metres. Any History about this Chain?, anyone?.., any clues? :-) Find links to immediately next connected posts. Architecture News India - ISRO material makes lateral entry

Indian Space Research provides fire retardant alternative
Material used by ISRO for their rockets is useful in Indian Construction too. CASPOL is a coating. It is water-based and flameproof with flame retardant, waterproofing and thermal insulation properties. It may have application on walls, thatched roofs and wood, is environmentally safe, is an emulsion that can be sprayed on surfaces needing protection and they call it 'fire proof'. A temperature difference of 5 to 6 degrees can be created. A litre of CASPOL can coat 1.5 sq metre with a thickness of 500 micron.
